Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which went to London on June 12, soon after flying from the International Airport in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Crashed in the hostel premises of the medical college.
India’s aviation regulator has directed Air India to expel three of its employees after a recent security lapse, causing serious concerns. This step has been taken only a few days after the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, in which 270 people lost their lives. Out of 242 people aboard the aircraft, 241 people were killed in this accident, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Many people were also killed on the ground. Officials are matching DNA to identify the victims, as many bodies are so burnt that they are unable to be identified or have been damaged. Gujarat government spokesperson and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said, “So far 220 DNA samples have been matched and relatives of these victims have been contacted. The bodies of 202 victims have been handed over to their families. And the process of identifying the victims is going on.”
