Bollywood actor Dino Moriya along with her brother Santino Moriya arrived in the office of the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday. The two came out of the ED office after 3:30 hours of questioning in the sweet river cleaning scam. The inquiry is part of the ongoing investigation of the alleged money laundering scheme related to silt removal contracts for the sweet river of Rs 65.54 crore. According to PTI, the 49-year-old actor reached the ED office at around 10:30 pm after receiving a new summons with co-accused Santino Moriya in the case.
After the disastrous floods of 2005, the Project to extract the silt of the sweet river launched by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civil bodies was to ensure better flood management by cleaning the debris and maintaining the river floor.
However, the recent audit and investigation have expressed concern about the increased bills, fake work logs and diversion of money. On 6 June, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided fifteen places in Mumbai and Kochi, including Moriya’s residence.
In these raids, individuals and organizations associated with contractors and officials were targeted, who are suspected of fraud activities related to silt extract. The raids were killed under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), in which the ED was trying to find out the income of alleged financial misconduct. The sweet river, one of the important drainage arteries of Mumbai, attracted attention across the country after the 2005 floods, highlighting the immediate need for effective flood prevention measures.
