A court in Thane district of Maharashtra acquitted a 28 -year -old accused of killing his brother -in -law in 2023, giving the benefit of doubt as the main witnesses.
Although documents such as post -mortem reports confirmed that the death caused by stabbing caused by excessive blood flow, the court said that the crime of the accused without solid testimony could not be proved independently.
Additional Sessions Judge SG Inamdar of Kalyan Court said in an order passed on May 19 that the prosecution “could not prove his case beyond proper doubt”.
A copy of the order was made available on Saturday. The FIR was registered on May 4, 2023. The FIR alleged that Ramesh Velwami Tevar, a resident of Khambalpada in Dombivali area, killed his brother -in -law Marikani Ramaswamy Tevar on the chest with a knife after a quarrel over something.
The accused was arrested on May 5, 2023 and was kept in custody during the entire hearing. However, the three main witnesses- Vijayalakshmi, wife of the deceased and her two more brothers, refrained from their statement during the hearing.
