Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the media veteran and senior journalist Avik Sarkar on his 80th birthday and appreciated his contribution as an important part of public dialogue in the media and publication industry.
Former Chairman of ‘Press Trust of India’ (PTI) and Director at the Board of News Agency, the government led the Anand Bazar Patrika Group in Kolkata, owner and operates many TVs, prints and online properties. Avik government will turn 80 on June 9.
Modi thanked the government through a private note for inviting the birthday celebrations and highlighted the spiritual importance of this important occasion of his life.
The Prime Minister said, “According to tradition, attaining the age of 80 years means that the person has seen a thousand full moon which is also called ‘Sahasra Chandra Darshan’ and it is a sacred milestone.”
He praised the government’s contribution, saying, “In the last several years, whether it is print media, electronic media or publication industry, your work has been an important part of public dialogue. You worked in different languages and this fact is also a way to maintain India’s amazing diversity. ”
Modi expressed confidence that the government will keep itself active in these areas in future also. The Prime Minister said that the presence of the government is going to assure family, friends, colleagues and people whose life he has touched.
He said, “I am sure that this is an opportunity for them to celebrate your journey so far and wish to live together for many more years.” Modi wished the government’s happy life and good health.
