Pakistan is once again turning to US President Donald Trump in the hope of resumption of talks with India. Amidst the increasing global investigation over his track record on terrorism, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called Washington to facilitate a comprehensive peace process between the two countries, an idea that India has strongly opposed. Speaking at an event organized by the US Embassy in Islamabad, Sharif praised Trump’s alleged efforts in reducing tension with India and urged the US to play a more active role in encouraging dialogues between nuclear-head neighbors.

Sharif’s comment was the resonance of the previously made comments by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who credited to help Trump to help in bringing the ceasefire agreement. Bhutto said that on ten different occasions, President Trump has taken credit for facilitating the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and it is also correct. If America is ready to help maintain this ceasefire, it is appropriate to expect that its participation in facilitating broad talks will be equally useful.

New Delhi has repeatedly reiterated that any conversation with Pakistan will be held to end sponsored terrorism against India and to return the occupied parts of Kashmir. India has also strictly stated that the conversation will be completely bilateral and no third party like America should work as an intermediary or architect, it is a policy that is the same in all governments. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is currently leading an all -party Indian delegation in the US, dismissed the Pakistani statement with a clear answer. “America well understands that India will not interact under threats. You cannot talk to a neighbor who leaves rotvilers on your children and then asks for conversation. There is nothing to discuss until those dogs are tied in chains, not kept in chains or not being killed.
