Sharmishta Panoli Case: President of Bar Council of India, who came out openly in support of Sharmishtha Panoli, told a strong attack on freedom of expression

The 22 -year -old influential person arrested by the Kolkata Police and the law student Sharmistha Panoli is in judicial custody due to his social media post on Operation Sindoor. In a recent development in the case, Manan Kumar Mishra, President of Bar Council of India (BCI), demanded immediate release of Pune Law University student. Speaking in support of Sharmishtha Panoli, the Rajya Sabha member and senior advocate said that he is standing firmly with him, whose arrest and judicial custody till June 13 has created a political stir and BJP leaders have criticized the Bengal government.

Panoli’s arrest also attracted attention internationally and Dutch MP Geert Wilders said his arrest was an insult to freedom of expression. Sharmistha Panoli, a resident of Kolkata, was arrested from Gurugram on Friday night, after which a arrest warrant was issued against him. Police had said that after trying to send a legal notice, she was hiding with her family. According to local police sources, Sharmistha Panoli was arrested for a post on Instagram, in which she criticized Hindi film actors for silence on Operation Sindoor.

This post received sharp reactions, many users trolled him and made threatening comments. Facing a sharp response, he removed the video and apologized. On Saturday, Panoli was produced in a Kolkata court, which sent him to judicial custody till 13 June.
