Russian Deputy Ambassador to India Roman Babushkin confirmed the latest development during an interview, emphasizing the timely delivery of the remaining systems despite recent global challenges. India’s S-400 system has already demonstrated its capabilities, especially during the Indo-Pakistan tension in Operation Sindoor, where they successfully stopped enemy drones and missiles. Babushkin highlighted the operational effectiveness of the system, and said that it acted efficiently during the situation, which strengthened its strategic importance to protect India.

The contract for the S-400 system was initially signed in 2018, priced at $ 5.43 billion and includes five regiments. The first regiment came in December 2021, while the second and third regiments were distributed in April 2022 and October 2023 respectively. The last two units are to be delivered in the next two years, which will complete India’s acquisition of this advanced air defense system. The S-400, known as “Sudarshan Chakra” in India, is capable of detecting and destroying a variety of air threats including strategic bombers, fighter jets, drones and missiles with detection range up to 380 km. Its powerful radar, missile launchers and command centers enable it to target several hazards simultaneously, which gives India a significant increase in its air defense capabilities.
