The Allahabad High Court postponed the hearing on a public interest litigation on a PIL demanding a directive to issue the vacant posts of judges on time and rapidly.
The bench of Justice Vivek Kumar Birla and Justice Jitendra Kumar Sinha is hearing a PIL filed by senior advocate Satish Trivedi. During the hearing, senior advocate SFA Naqvi, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, said the Allahabad High Court is facing the most serious crisis in its history as there is a huge shortage of judges in the High Court.
He said that more than 11 lakh cases are pending in this state with a population of 24 crores. Every 30 million people have only one judge in which each judge is looking at the average of 14,623 cases.
The petition stated that the High Court judges are working on less than 50 percent of the approved posts, due to which more than 11 lakh cases have been pending.
