The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, which warns of extremely heavy rain till 8:30 am on May 27, 2025. This alert has been released amidst heavy rains in Mumbai, due to which there has been widespread waterlogging in the entire city and normal life has been disturbed. The red alert of the IMD indicates exceptionally heavy rainfall situation, which is likely to cause significant disruption.

Given the alert, citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and follow the safety instructions issued by local authorities. Mumbai has been raining continuously since Monday morning. There are reports of heavy waterlogging in major areas like Andheri, Dadar, Baykula, Churchgate and Mumbai suburbs, due to which traffic has been delayed and local train services have been disrupted. The most affected areas include KEM Hospital, where the water has entered the ground floor, affecting patient services including the pediatric intensive medical unit (PICU).
According to the latest update of India Meteorological Department (IMD), a red alert has been declared for Mumbai and surrounding areas, including Raigad, Palghar, Thane and others, on May 27. The announcement was shared by an X account of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). All citizens are given strict advice to stay indoors and avoid traveling until they are necessary. The IMD is closely monitoring the changing weather conditions. Residents of the affected areas are urged to stay indoors and avoid getting out during heavy rains or storm conditions.

On Monday morning, the Mumbai Metro suspended services between Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli, as there was heavy waterlogging at the underground station. Suburban railway services were disrupted due to torrential rains, especially on the Central Railway Line. The movement of trains was delayed in the morning due to flooding of tracks at Masjid, Baykula, Dadar, Matunga and Badlapur stations. Constant rains led to heavy waterlogging in many low -lying areas including Kings Circle, Ministry, Dadar TT East, Parel TT, Kalachowki and Chinchpokali.
