8,500 crore loan in Punjab for Punjab government, RBI approved

The Punjab Government is going to take a new loan of Rs 8,500 crore during July to September. The debt will be subject to the approval of the Indian Reserve Bank (RBI) and will be gathered from the market. According to information, the government will be Rs 2,000 crore in July, Rs 3,000 crore in August and Rs 3,500 crore in September.

Earlier, the government has taken a loan of Rs 6,241.92 crore in April and May. Overall the total debt taken in the current financial year 2025-26 will be reached Rs 14,741.92 crore.

Let the Punjab government aim to collect 304,201.11 crore loans in the entire financial year. If this goal is fulfilled, the total outstanding loan on the state will cross 4 lakh crore on the state by March 2026. Currently (by March 2024), Punjab debt is Rs 3.82 lakh crore, which is more than 44 per cent of the GSDP of the state.

If the state’s population should be considered 3rm, each citizen will be debt worth Rs. 1.33 lakh. In the early Parliament of Parliament, Union Finance Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary had said in a report in Parliament in Parliament had said that if the GSDP ratio of debt was considered the GSDP ratio, Punjab is the second largest debtor state of the country.
