7 crores looted from cash van in filmy style in Bengaluru, robbers came posing as RBI officers

A major robbery was carried out in filmy style in broad daylight in Bengaluru. The matter is such that some unknown people came posing as RBI officers with full confidence, they were in a group of armed people and they stopped the vehicle loading ATM cash near Ashoka Pillar and looted more than Rs 7 crore.The CMS cash van was carrying money from HDFC Bank’s JP Nagar branch when a Toyota Innova suddenly blocked its path. The people sitting in the Innova went to the CMS staff and claimed that they were from RBI and said that they had to verify the documents.

It is believed that this is probably the first such incident in the city. J.P. A van carrying cash from a bank branch located in the city was looted near the Ashoka Pillar. Police had initially said that the criminals had pretended to be income tax officers. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that such an incident had probably never happened before in Bengaluru.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that some people came in a car bearing Government of India stickers and stopped the vehicle carrying cash, asking to verify the documents. A senior police officer said that after this the suspects took the cash and forced the employees of the van to sit in their car. They allegedly headed towards Dairy Circle, where they dropped the employees and fled with around Rs 7 crore in cash, the officer said.

He said CCTV footage is being scrutinized to trace the route of the vehicle and identify the people involved. God assured that the culprits would be caught as soon as possible. Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh told the media that the incident took place in Sidhapura police station area on Wednesday afternoon. He said that around Rs 7 crore was reported to have been looted, but this has not been confirmed as the driver of the cash van has not shared the correct information.

Citing preliminary information, the officer said the money was forcefully transferred from the CMS cash van to a vehicle. Police said that in connection with the incident, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code on the basis of the complaint of the branch manager of CMS Inno System Limited.
