7.4 magnitude earthquake, tsunami warning continues in Russia’s work

According to the National Earthquake Science Center, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude occurred near the east coast of the Kamchatka region of Russia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 mi). However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has described its intensity at 7.4, which was at a depth of 39.5 km. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned of dangerous waves affecting the Russian coasts within a radius of 300 km from the center of the earthquake. The USGS initially stated the intensity of the earthquake 7.5, but later reduced it.

Fierce earthquake in eastern Russia after months of earthquake

The earthquake occurred only a few months after a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude in the Russian’s Fundament Peninsula in July, causing intense seismic waves in eastern Russia and a tsunami warning was issued in many countries including Japan, the United States and many Pacific islands.

The most powerful earthquake in 14 years

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake in July was the most powerful earthquake recorded worldwide over the last 14 years, and the sixth most powerful earthquake in history. It was the most intense after the devastating earthquake of 9.1 magnitude in Japan in 2011, which gave rise to a fierce tsunami and widespread destruction.
