OIC, the organization of Islamic countries, has once again raised the Kashmir issue while making statements against India. In this statement issued under pressure from Pakistan, OIC accused India of illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, OIC reiterated its support for the alleged right to self-determination of Kashmiris. Now imagine, this is the same OIC which does not talk on issues like terrorism. Does not talk about terrorists growing in Pakistan. This OIC also remains silent on issues like Pakistan’s attack on Afghanistan and China’s atrocities on Muslims. But under pressure from countries like Pakistan, it definitely makes statements against India. In fact, in a written statement issued by the General Secretariat of the OIC, it was said that the OIC stands with the legitimate aspirations and right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

This seems to be less the language of OIC and more the language of Pakistan because Jammu and Kashmir was and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India. However, the OIC, citing old resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, appealed to the international community for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. The organization also said that steps should be taken at the international level to protect the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. But let us tell you that this attitude of OIC is not new. For the last several decades, this organization has been seen standing in favor of Pakistan. India has earlier also rejected such statements of OIC and said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and no external organization or country has any right over it.

A new resolution was presented in the British Parliament in support of India. This is going to hurt Pakistan a lot. In fact, British Conservative Party MP Bob Blackman has presented an early day motion in the British Parliament. In which India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over Jammu and Kashmir has been reiterated. This resolution not only recognizes India’s historical and constitutional position but is also being considered as a strong diplomatic signal amid the continuous propaganda by Pakistan. In this proposal it was said that on 26 October 1947, the then Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the instrument of merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India. After this, the then Governor General of India, Lord Mountbatten accepted it on 27 October and thus Jammu and Kashmir formally became a part of India.

Actually, Accession Day is celebrated every year on 26 October. This day reminds of the historic moment when Jammu and Kashmir chose the path of unity and integrity with India. This proposal also reminds of the period of 1947 when Pakistan attacked Jammu and Kashmir. The Maharaja asked for help from India to protect the kingdom and India took military action and pushed Pakistan back. This was the turning point that paved the way for Jammu and Kashmir to join India.
