The death toll in the stampede in the stampede on Saturday evening at the election rally of Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay has increased to 40 in Karur, Tamil Nadu, including women and children.
Retired High Court Judge Aruna Jagdishan, appointed by the state government, visited the stampede site on Sunday for a detailed investigation into this horrific accident. Judge Aruna Jagadishan said, ‘The Commission has been formed to remove the deficiencies. Such incidents should not happen in future and necessary corrective steps will be taken.

The Karur Collector addressed a press conference with ADGP (Law and Order) S Davidson Devsiravatham, saying, “A total of 40 people have died in the stampede so far.”

He further said, ‘The Chief Minister immediately arrived at night and ordered proper treatment of the injured. He announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the dead and Rs 1 lakh for people undergoing treatment. A help desk has been opened in the hospital … The Tamil Nadu government has taken steps to stop more deaths.
The tragedy occurred when TVK chief Vijay was addressing an election rally and suddenly the crowd became uncontrollable, causing this major accident.
