On the last day of the annual Amarnath Yatra, more than 6,000 devotees visited the Holy Cave Temple in South Kashmir Himalayas, causing the total number of travelers to reach 4.14 lakhs. This information was provided by officers. Last year, more than 5.10 lakh pilgrims visited this cave temple.
The Amarnath Yatra usually ends on the day of Raksha Bandhan. This year the journey was scheduled to end on 9 August. The officials decided to shorten the yatra for a week, citing significant repair and maintenance works in view of heavy rains.
Officials said a total of 6,497 pilgrims visited the holy cave temple at an altitude of 3,800 meters on Saturday. He said that the passengers included 4,586 men, 1,299 women, 62 children, 51 sadhus, five sadhus and 494 security forces personnel.
Officials said that since the start of the yatra on July 3, 4,14,311 passengers have visited the Holy Cave Temple. Due to the need for maintenance of roads damaged by recent heavy rains, the authorities postponed this year’s annual Amarnath Yatra on Saturday exactly a week before its prescribed conclusion.
