MP Sant Sechewal during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha
Today the issue of Punjab’s serious economic crisis arose in the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal raised the issue during zero hour. He informed that Punjab currently has a loan of 3 lakh 74 thousand crore rupees.

Rajya Sabha MP Seechewal said that Punjab’s economy is based on agriculture. The state has always kept the country’s grain reserves full, but today it is burdened with debt. Even it has become difficult to repay installments of loan interest.
He said that this debt started growing from the time when Central Security Forces were deployed in the state. At that time, the state was fighting for the unity and integrity of the country. The cost of deployment of security forces was put on Punjab.

He said that Punjab currently has many serious problems. The underground water level has gone very low. According to a report presented in the Lok Sabha, the amount of nitrate in 20 districts of the state has increased. It is harmful to crops. Also, the amount of arsenic in 12 districts has increased. This is increasing the risk of skin disease and cancer. The water of rivers is also getting polluted.
Sant Seechewal said that in view of this crisis in the economy and agriculture sector of Punjab, the central government should also give the same treatment to the debt on Punjab as that was given to corporate loans worth 16 lakh crores.
Farmers and laborers should be helped
Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Sechewal said that farmers and laborers who are shields of the country and work hard day and night are not that much. Saint Seechewal said in the House that after the independence of the country, every region touched the heights of development, but the condition of farmers and laborers became consistent. Sant Seechewal strongly demanded in the House that all farmers and laborers of the country including Punjab be helped. All kinds of loans on farmers and laborers should be waived, because only if the farmers survive, the laborers and the country will be saved.
