The minister said that during January-June 2025, the number of passengers carrying by domestic airlines recorded an increase of 7.34 percent compared to the same period last year. This year, IndiGo and Air India canceled or re -determined 1,017 and 662 flights respectively. According to data shared with the written answer, SpiceJet canceled or re -determined 334 flights, while the number of Air India Express was canceled or re -determined by 18 flights of 427 and Akasa Air. Mohol said a total of 2,458 flights were canceled or re-determined due to “regulatory issues and geopolitical issues”.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation told the Lok Sabha on Thursday that this year, due to regulators and geopolitical issues, airlines canceled or re-determined 2,458 flights. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said in a written reply that due to delay and cancellation, airlines have to bear the cost including additional fuel, crew overtime, maintenance, airport fees and re -booking expenses. For the cancellation or significant delay of the airlines, passengers are required to give corresponding or compensation.
