For the restoration of peace in the state after the implementation of President’s rule in Manipur, 21 MLAs of the state wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It wrote that the state should be the government in the state.

The letter has been signed by 13 BJP MLAs, 3 NPP MLAs, 3 Naga People’s Front MLAs and two members of the assembly. It said that the people of Manipur accepted President’s rule with great hope and expectation.

However, it is going to be three months, but no action has been observed to bring peace and normal condition yet.

‘Violence may occur again in the state’

The people of the state believe that violence can happen again. Many civil organizations have come out openly against the implementation of President’s rule and are demanding the establishment of a popular government.

Home Ministry got a letter on 29 April

An MLA said that the letter was received by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 29 April and came out on Wednesday. The legislators also said, “We feel that such a government should be established in Manipur to bring peace and normal status that people like, this is the only solution.”

He requested the Home Minister that necessary steps should be taken to establish a popular government in the interest of the people of Manipur as soon as possible. We assure you that after the establishment of the popular government, we will work with full dedication and loyalty to bring peace and normal status.

Congress President Kesham Meghchandra criticized MLAs

However, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Kesham Meghchandra Singh, bypassing the Governor, criticized 21 MLAs for writing a letter to the Center. He alleged that these MLAs sidelined the rules and regulations to form the government in the state, which is currently under President’s rule.

Meghchandra wrote in a post on X, ‘These MLAs should have gone to Raj Bhavan in Imphal to claim the formation of a new government, but he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister instead of writing a letter to the Governor of Manipur. People of Manipur want change. People of Manipur want a new option.

The Center implemented President’s rule in Manipur on 13 February. Since May 2023, more than 250 people were killed and thousands of people died in ethnic violence between Maetai and Cookie groups. President’s rule was imposed after Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resignation. The term of the state assembly was till 2027, it was suspended.
