The reason for the faith of people on Baba child
Baba Balak Nath is a reputed person in Hindu mythology, who is known for his devotion to Guru Dattatreya and his miraculous works. According to legend, Baba left his family at the age of three and Rishi Narada directed him to chant or chant the mantras of Guru Dattatreya. When Baba was 4 years old, Guru Dattatreya took him as his disciple and he set out on a four-dham yatra.
During his pilgrimage, Baba stayed in Banwala and later reached Shahtalai in Himachal, where he became the adopted son of Mata Ratno and raised his cows. Baba Balak Nath spent 12 years, doing penance under the banyan tree, doing his yoga and accepting bread and lassi from Ratto Mai for food. At the end of the 12th year, complaints from the people of the village started coming that Baba is ignoring their cows and harming their crops.

Ratno Mai himself tried to please the people, but the village head publicly rebuked him by his cows to cause serious damage to his crop. Then Ratno Mai lost his patience and complained to Baba about his negligence. Hearing this, Baba took him and the head of the village to the farm that he was complaining, where he was surprised that the crops were miraculously cured.
When the pond of buttermilk became
Baba threw his tongs on the trunk of the banyan tree, under which he had been sitting for the last 12 years, and a piece of wood broke, which showed a pile of rotis inside. He also pushed his tongs into the ground and the spring of buttermilk erupted, which soon became a pond of buttermilk. This pond can still be seen in Shahatlai, which led to the name of this place.
Today, the place where the legendary banyan tree was situated, there is a hollow structure called “land of penance under hollow tree” and is a temple with idols of Baba Balak Nath, Guga Chauhan and Nahar Singh. Devotees believe that the soil of that place is an effective medicine against the foot disease of cattle. The story of Baba Balak Nath reminds of the power of faith and devotion and his miracles still inspire people.
