The accused had planned to rob the bank along with 5 colleagues.
A man from Davangere district of Karnataka looted 17 kg of gold from the bank after not getting a loan. Police said- 30-year-old Vijaykumar, the main accused of theft, was struggling with financial crisis. He applied for a loan of Rs 15 lakh to SBI Bank in August 2023, but his application was rejected. Angered by this, he looted gold worth Rs 13 crore from the bank.
Police said- Accused Vijaykumar got the idea of theft from the Spanish crime drama series ‘Money HIST’. After this, after watching his YouTube video, he planned to rob bank robbery in 6-9 months. He also took help of brother Ajaykumar, brother -in -law Paramanand and three other companions Abhishek, Chandru and Manjunath in robbing the bank. The police have currently arrested all the 6 accused.
Bank theft made accurate plan, practice many times Police said that accused Vijaykumar, along with 5 of his companions, planned several months before robbing the bank. Vijayakumar and Chandru did the bank several times. He drilled a mock drill to go from deserted fields to the bank at night so that the movement of police and common people could not be estimated.
The police recovered all the stolen jewelery.
The gang then entered the bank from the window. Silent broke the bank locker using hydraulic iron cutters and gas-cutting tools. Nobody used the phone. CCTV’s digital video recorder (DVR) also took along. Which left no clue for the police.
Vijaykumar also erased the serial numbers of the oxygen cylinder used to cut security barrier. The gang spread the chilli powder to the entire bank including the strong room and the cabin of the manager to make it difficult for the police to investigate.
Police searched for accused in many states After the theft, the gang started selling stolen gold. The money received from it was used to buy business and home. Here, the investigation team of the police conducted search operations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh between November and February.
The police team recovered a locker from a 30 feet deep well with the help of expert swimmers, in which about 15 kg of gold was hidden.
During the investigation, the police came to know about a network in Tamil Nadu, who was working closely with the local people. With this, the police arrested 6 accused. After this, the police conducted a big operation to find stolen gold in Usilamapatti area of Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the police team recovered a locker from 30 feet deep well with the help of expert swimmers, in which about 15 kg of gold was hidden.
Police said that accused Vijaykumar made a plan to hide the locker in the well. After 2 years, there was a plan to remove it so that no one would be suspicious. At present, the police have recovered the entire gold.
